During the war against Japan, China was in a critical situation. The Chinese commander, Zhu De, led the main force of the Eighth Route Army to cross the Huanghe River and confront his forces with the Japanese army. They established bases in the low areas of Tai Hang Shan and fought valiantly against the Japanese. With limited support from the nationalist Kuomintang, the Eighth Route Army later won 11 more battles such as the Pingxingguan War and the surprise attack by the Japanese army on Yangmingbao Airport.
