Very slow story that only becomes somewhat interesting in the last 20 minutes. The story is not confusing, but understand that it is experienced that way, at the end some puzzle pieces fall into place. The acting is quite decent, but cannot save the story. Not worth it...

Film with a fairly weak and ordinary story..

That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it was also a poorly developed script...

And I was bothered by the acting of the main character...

I was hoping that the movie would get better as it progressed... But unfortunately that wasn't the case...

The film gets 2 stars from me.

Director Ed Gass-Donnelly seemed to have an ambitious film in mind, but is frequently thwarted by an unconvincing Abbie Cornish. She mainly makes an unmotivated impression and that is of course fatal in these types of sentimental characters. Gass-Donnelly has to put a lot of effort into setting the atmosphere, but it barely comes off. There are some unusual images and nice visual discoveries in between, but the tension doesn't really come in. What is effective is that the overall mystery remains intact for a long time, despite some hints being given away a little too early. The final approach is not exactly well thought out, but fortunately the structure remains interesting enough. I was positively struck by the supporting roles of Justin Long and Dermot Mulroney, especially the second name I have not often seen played so authentically. Ultimately, Lavender is mainly a typical not-so-film with a number of intriguing ideas and concepts, but limited depth in depth.
