mrs. Palfrey, an elderly lady, moves from Scotland to London after her husband's death to be near her 26-year-old grandson Desmond. She's staying at the Claremont hotel, but unfortunately Desmond ignores all her overtures and the other hotel guests plus the staff think she's just making things up. By chance she meets Ludovic, a young writer, who helps her and pretends to be her grandson. The two also seem to get along very well, but what if the real grandson does arrive?
