The orphaned girl Juli (Zsuzsa Czinkóczi) returns in 1945 from Russian exile to Budapest, where she comes under the protection of a prison director Magda (Anna Polony) who works unscrupulously in socialist construction. A power struggle develops on a psychological and political level between Juli and Magda.
