The monk seems to be a dying species in the Low Countries. Abbey Sion in Diepenveen, once built for 120 monks, today still houses eight monks; one of the reasons why the community decided to sell the abbey. However, the brothers do not accept this fact as if it were an end, but dare to dream of a new beginning on the island that owes its name to the monks, but has not seen one for four hundred years: Schiermonnikoog.
