Happy Christmas, Miss King plot

World War I has broken out and life in quiet and peaceful Avonlea has changed dramatically. Janet and Alec King have received word from the front that their son Felix is missing. Janet is greatly burdened by this and wants to skip the traditional Christmas dinner for a year. Hetty King, however, wants nothing to do with it. She is completely absorbed in the preparations for Christmas and has little understanding for Janet's feelings. When Hetty is suddenly hospitalized, she feels alone and looks back on her life with mixed feelings.
