Stockbroker Charles Strickland says goodbye to his regular life in England to start a new artist life in the paradise of Tahiti in the Pacific Ocean. Nature and a young Tahitian inspire him for his paintings. Just as the painter begins to gain fame, disaster strikes, in the form of the deadly disease leprosy.
