"Women hated her...but men DESIRED her!"
Temptress Christabel (Joan Fontaine) who wants to keep two men on a leash at the same time, hijacks a wealthy businessman (Zachary Scott) from his wife while enjoying the whims of a writer (Robert Ryan). He sees her through, but is nevertheless in love with her.

Made at a time when bad and manipulative behavior of women could still be exposed.
Compare that with now, where in a series like She-Hulk or even more so Captain Marvel, the main actress portrays a terribly annoying narcissistic character, but in which that behavior apparently should be perfectly normal in public opinion.
No, give me a time when women still had to answer for their bad actions
(even though she can easily get away with this).
Joan Fontaine gives a fine performance as the manipulative Christabel and Robert Ryan is also doing well in his role.
