The Liberace of Baghdad plot
Life is quite complicated for Samir Peter. Once the most famous pianist in Iraq, he now plays to half-filled lounges and sleeps in the basement of a hotel for fear of crossing Baghdad to get to his seven-bedroom house. Due to his numerous affairs with Western women, his wife moved to the US with two of his children. He needs a visa to go to America. However, he has trouble convincing his other children to come to America and has mixed feelings about America himself. Samir likes to show his world to director McAllister. However, as time goes by, the violence around him begins to escalate and McAllister becomes nervous. Nowhere seems safe anymore. The dead body of Samir's neighbor is found by his son: she was shot three times in the chest while her six-year-old daughter was standing next to her. While the situation continues to deteriorate, the pianist and the filmmaker try to survive in the 'peace' of pre-war Iraq.
