A thrilling prequel to Speed: criminals in Tokyo plant a bomb on a train; the bomb explodes when the train slows below 80 kilometers per hour. It's considerably too long, and the film doesn't hold your attention for the full duration, but the plot is solid and the characters are interesting, especially the criminals. They also receive by far the most time. The events on and around the train are actually of secondary importance. This is different in the recent sequel, Bullet Train Explosion, which takes place largely on board a train.

A good thriller, well-developed and suspenseful. Part disaster film with a bomb on a high-speed train that's not allowed to go below 80 km/h, and part crime film about the desperate act of a man who recently lost his company and family. The first hour and a half is very high-quality, but after that, it starts to drag. The number of flashbacks was acceptable and necessary to better contextualize the criminals' background. What I found unnecessary was the mess with the pregnant woman on the train. This Japanese classic is quite good, and despite its 150 minutes, it never really bored me. The finale could have been a bit more exciting for me to fully appreciate it, but I still managed to give it a narrow 4* rating.
