The year is 1881. Degraded Lieutenant John Martin Haven is assigned by the government to investigate deadly robberies on gold transports. Haven then travels incognito and arrives at a border checkpoint, where the saloon singer and femme-fatal Charlie monitors all illegal activity. After taking out Charlie's body-guard Mick Marion, Haven takes over his duties, such as Charlie's gambling empire. Meanwhile, Haven is also collecting evidence against this attractive leader.

A lot of attention is paid to the dialogues and they are so witty, clever and dominant that everything seems very artificial, even unnatural.
Moreover, the whole story isn't very engaging, unfamiliar for a Western yet full of clichés, yet delivered in a rather clumsy way. Even the final scene, which should have brought some emotion, is a complete failure. Perhaps the song was the best part.
