Helen Mallory (Bisset) is deaf-mute and spends her vacation in a remote house. The fifth murder by a serial killer was recently committed nearby. All victims were disabled. That evening there is a strong storm and strange things are happening in the house where the large spiral staircase is most conspicuous.
