Nice review.

It strikes me that these kinds of dramas are not often made in Japan anymore. Slightly more uncomfortable characters, the somewhat colder stylization, but also time and space for some warmth and a few dreamy moments. I like it.

This was Somai's last, kind of weird that I never went after his movies again. Maybe it's also because I have the feeling that he follows more of a style here than that it really is his own stamp, something I also had a bit with his earlier films.

But that doesn't matter much if you have an Asano in the lead, are presented with a pleasantly rippling drama and can close the film after two hours with a satisfied feeling. Not exactly a game changer, but an underexposed gem.

4.0* and a extended review
