Martial arts film from 1977 which, especially given the quality of what is offered, was entitled to some more votes, but for me it can certainly be counted as a classic in the genre.

The story, which suffered somewhat from the large amount of physical strength, takes place during the Ming dynasty where General Chow gets into big trouble when the fighter Hu Lung, whom he himself introduced to Minister Lu, commits a deadly attack on the same Lu. In the ensuing chaos, Chow finds himself a prime suspect and tries to prove his innocence by searching for Hu Lung, all the while pursuing the law and some hired killers.

This starting point in The Invincible Armor ( Ying Zhao Tie Bu Shan ) offers many very spectacular and varied battles that will never get boring for a moment due to the (different) composition and the use of various weapons and other attributes. As said before, the story doesn't develop too smoothly, but I didn't find that really disturbing.

The actors are almost all very convincing, especially Tino Wong in the role of Shen Yu I found very strong, and Hwang Jang-lee also puts down an excellent 'Bad guy', just like in Snake in the Eagle's Shadow a year later. Another big name that still pops up in the film is Corey Yuen, albeit in a small role.

The direction of See-Yuen Ng, who otherwise often acted as a producer (including for the shaw brothers studio) is also fine.

The downside is that, at least in the (YouTube) version that I saw, the editing is very messy and that there were also parts of English spoken scenes in addition to the main language Mandarin, very sloppy.

There is a (quite expensive) DVD version of the Invincible Armor available, but the film should actually get a good Blu ray release. Because given the level, he deserves that double and straight.

An excellent and very entertaining film.
