Love Comes Quietly plot

1926. Harm-Wouter Dijkstra, son of a cheese manufacturer in Friesland in the twenties, comes home and has to tell him that he has completed the first year of his engineering studies. In doing so, he brings shame to his father and mother. At about the same time, a wealthy American appears in the village, accompanied by what he calls his stepdaughter. Her name is Angela and she is pregnant. While the American is courting Harm-Wouter's mother -they know each other from the past-, the two youngsters leave the village and into the endless Frisian drifts.
