Fairly mediocre slasher with an uninspired story and a "surprising" ending. Most kills happen almost all in the dark, but the rest of the film is also poorly lit. The film dates from 1980 and that is before the big boom of the slasher film. There is not much more to say about it, because this film will be forgotten tomorrow. Still strange that I am happy with my VHS .

Yesterday I finally watched this slasher by David Hess (better known for his work in front of the camera than his work behind the camera).
As described above, very cliché indeed. The story contains little originality, although the outfit of the murderer had never been used before, I think. But then Silent Night, Deadly Night is a much better work.
Unfortunately, the version I watched was also of mediocre quality. Very underexposed, so that in some scenes you saw more silhouettes than actual people. There are some bloodless gore effects here and there, which unfortunately seem to have been borrowed somewhat from Friday the 13th (axe scene).
The acting is also of mediocre quality, but well, that is often the case with slashers and therefore not directly very disturbing. What is a pity is that some characters are also directly copied from better known slashers from that period, with the most clear example being that "crazy Ralph".
This kind of thing makes "To All a Goodnight" an example of a film that wanted to piggyback on the success of the genre. And therefore a rightly forgotten film.
I don't recommend it, even for die hard slasher fans.

Slasher from the old box. And also a bit of a forgotten slasher, and I can understand why - it's all assembly line work with little surprise. A group of rich students stay at college during the Christmas holidays, invite their boyfriends, so there is a lot of fooling around and relationship problems in the film. And, of course, there is a murderer, who dresses up as Santa Claus and slowly tries to kill everyone. Let's be honest, it's not original anywhere and the murders aren't that special either, but I still found it quite watchable. Especially because of the great 80s atmosphere. So not a top film, sometimes something like this is just fine.
