The Elusive Pimpernel plot
The film is about the legend of the Scarlet Pimpernel (written by Baroness Orczy), the English snob who secretly rescued French aristocrats from the guillotine during the terror following the French Revolution. The dualistic Briton puts the French across the Channel at the risk of his own life. Chauvelin is the man who tries to expose him by blackmailing his bored wife.
