A strange film in which I almost gave up in the first half due to the terrible music and severely subpar acting. It only improves in the second half, with a sort of Texas Chainsaw Massacre-esque story and a slightly nasty touch from Tom Savini's special makeup effects. So, forget the first 45 minutes, and you'll still get a somewhat decent film.

Seen on Severin's uncut Blu-ray. Also known as Backwoods Massacre and banned in the UK at the time as a Section 3 Video Nasty.

We follow a young woman named Nancy who runs away from home because her father drinks heavily and can't keep his hands to himself. She hitches a ride with two young boys to San Francisco and decides to set up camp in a wooded area near Pennsylvania, unaware that a group of deranged rednecks live there. These devil worshippers kidnap young women and then sacrifice them to Satan at the stroke of midnight. They hope to resurrect their deceased mother this way. After Nancy doesn't return, her father decides to search for her, with all the consequences that entails.

The story gets off to a slow start and is shaky all over the place. The first hour is certainly a real grind, but the last half hour makes up for a lot. One of those rednecks was a chubby guy named Cyrus, who was absolutely crazy with his laugh. The film has a strong Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe. It's directed by John Russo, who co-wrote Night of the Living Dead, and the gore effects are by none other than Tom Savini.
