Staryy Naezdnik plot

Trofimov is an old rider who is banned from horse racing for being too slow, but when he beats a rival in arm wrestling, he gets to participate. He also wants to prove that he is still young at heart by getting married. He invites his daughter to visit him on his wedding day. Once there, she is approached by two gamblers who ask her which horse to bet on. Her prediction comes true every time.

Well, Trofimov is actually a driver, sitting on a cart, the sulky. I couldn't find the old jockey without a Cyrillic keyboard at first either.

Anyway, it's an entertaining film. A bit silly but thank God no crazy Marx Brothers stuff along the trotting track and enough focus on the competitions and the horses, which are well cared for and washed, and the whip that is hardly or not at all used. The winning grey Egorka is also a beauty.
