Well-acted and sometimes original film, but ultimately director Benjamin Wilkins does too little with the second half of Pretty Dead in particular. The first half is mainly used for the story development, in which two main characters are emphasized in their relationship and their special discovery. That works for a while because of the chemistry they share with each other, but ultimately Wilkins confuses the drama aspect with the horror elements. However, these are shown too limited and not always convincingly, especially the make-up looks a bit unfinished and cheap. Furthermore, there is no real effort made for practical effects and the final phase is too short to leave a real impact. Underneath the usual layers is a fascinating and above-average film, but Pretty Dead is too short and a bit too simplistic to rise above that.
