To Please a Lady plot

"CLARK GABLE - BARBARA STANWYCK - HE'S MISTER SPEED! SHE'S MISS SPITFIRE!"

Mike Brannan is a car racer who is not very popular, because once another racer was killed in a crash because of him. Wanting to give him a fair chance to defend himself, columnist Regina Forbes decides to interview him. Brannan, however, doesn't like her and refuses. However, at a subsequent race, Brannan causes another fatal crash, and Forbes writes a scathing column about him. As a result, Brannan is denied further permission to race, forcing him to take a job as a stunt driver. However, when Forbes and Brannan meet, they fall in love.

Clark Gable has always been an actor I enjoyed watching, a strong personality who never minced his words (at least in his roles).

This certainly applied to his attitude towards women, where an actor like Cary Grant often behaved like a weak yes-man towards women, Gable was often tough but fair and did not allow himself to be messed with.

Yet you see the feminization and the strong successful business women trope in Hollywood slowly increasing here as well, yet Gable continued to play herself (more or less the role from Gone With the Wind but somewhat toned down).

Stanwyck plays the role of a tough businesswoman here, which in this film more or less means that she uses the power of the media through a newspaper to influence public opinion.

When she uses her influence to undermine Gable's racing career, it's striking that she falls head over heels for him the second time they meet.

Anyway, the chemistry between the two is there and the story then revolves around their moral compass when it turns out that she is not entirely innocent either.

It is a nice drama story with of course the Americans who have to praise their sport to the skies because everything in America is the best of course.
