Assistant tailor Arthur Kipps is an orphan who is apprenticed to a tyrannical tailor. His life is suddenly turned upside down when he inherits a fortune from his wealthy grandfather. With this he tries to end up in the higher social circles.

Large-scale musical event set in the music hall era, with occasional psychedelic influences. The rags to riches class difference romance story wasn't hugely compelling, even though it's apparently based on work by HG Wells.
Nevertheless, the musical pieces are quite enjoyable, partly because of the always cheerful Tommy Steele. Who sometimes wants to imitate Astaire a little too much, but okay.
