I'll be honest: it took me a lot of effort to finish this movie. Still done because Andrej Wajda is simply a great filmmaker who has made beautiful films. As far as I'm concerned, this one doesn't belong. There is virtually no story, hardly a red line, a lot of pointless drivel and the eternal Daniel Olbrychski, who appears in almost every Wajda film from those years. Here he is a poet and bookworm, chatting with fellow prisoners in various camps as they wait for, well, what? So they can go home, maybe. I didn't understand much of it and I don't understand what exactly Wajda meant by this film, which does not contain any factual information that the viewer can use, but only shows prisoners who look fit and well-fed. I don't think it was.
