The Lighthorsemen plot

"They did what they were told... They didn't know it was impossible!"

Palestine 1917. British cavalry attacks resisted by Turkish line running from Gaza to Beersheba. The latest failed attack on Gaza also involved a regiment of Australian infantrymen, the so-called Light Horse. Within the group there are all kinds of complications, including amorous ones, which cause tensions and eventually lead to a dramatic climax when the attack is again launched on Beersheba.

Comparable to '85 series Anzacs, but a bit less. Just like Anzacs, it is a feast of recognition with all Australian actors known from series such as Baywatch, Flying Doctors and one of my childhood favorites Police Rescue.

What is interesting about the film is the image of warfare at that time with cavalry, and a place where such a scene took place is also interesting because there are countless places in Eastern Europe and, for example, Africa where battles took place, but little is known about it. the big public. No less interesting is the importance of water in such a region. The war scenes are well shot at times, as is all the action with the horses. Something that would not have been easy at that time, and may not be easy now.

But that's it anyway, from there things start to get messy as far as I'm concerned. The characters do not go into depth, nor do I have anything to do with them, the romance feels obligatory and the fuss surrounding the strange intelligence officer Meinertzhagen definitely undermines what little pace there is in the film. The film therefore feels slow and long and in that sense a decent attempt results in an unremarkable product. As far as I'm concerned, let's quickly move on to the next film.

A romance drama set in the middle of the First World War in the Middle East in which we follow the Australian Air Force. The whole thing flows quietly along with an attack apotheosis at the end. The pacifist soldier can make the viewer think a bit. Overall, a bit long-winded in my opinion.
