Out of the Ashes plot
This is the story of Dr. Gisella Perl, who defied history's most notorious German war criminal: Dr. Josef Mengele, the camp doctor of Auschwitz. Gisella Perl sails into Manhattan Harbor on a huge steamer in 1946. Like many Jewish war refugees, she came to America to start a new life. As one of the first female gynecologists in Eastern Europe, she is determined to return to her old profession. But to start her own practice, she must first get approval from a committee of doctors. During their interrogations, Gisella's past becomes clear. She was Dr. Mengele's assistant. This presents the committee members with a dilemma: What did Gisella have to do to survive?
