Fans of martial arts films will enjoy this. However, I find it a ridiculous film with a wafer-thin story and painfully bad acting. I suspect that the filmmakers simply considered that of secondary importance. Less important, I think, than showing a few bare breasts to enhance the atmosphere.
Anyway, eventually both protagonists and the main supporting roles are all felled. Logically, the film is over then. Not too soon as far as I'm concerned.

Fine.

First Chor on MovieMeter, but according to IMDb he was already about halfway through his career. So we are still a bit behind here, not the least director. In any case, a classic with good reason.

Distinguishes itself mainly by distinguishing itself from the typical Shaw Bros work. A different setting, a couple of female leads and a somewhat different dynamic ensure that this has not become the umpteenth Shaw Bros martial arts flick.

Visually also a bit more neat. Still neatly portrayed. Action looks good, sets are nicely finished and it doesn't look too stagey. It's not great cinema, for that it's always a bit too much assembly line work, but for SB lovers this is certainly recommended.

Absurd SB. An attempt to offer something different in content than the standard martial arts films. I can appreciate that attempt in itself, with that forced sexist brothel atmosphere with bare breasts, old perverts, torture and oppression. Then the familiar revenge motif quickly comes back. Same shit but in a different package.
There wasn't much action to be seen either; too bad because that's mainly why I watch a SB. Only in the last ten to fifteen minutes things really get going with a bloody finale but everything before that I thought was lame, in which Lady Ainu settles scores with the old goats who used to rape her. The Lady Snowblood film is definitely better.
