After Camp On Blood Island, a second strong war drama from Hammer. This, in addition to their familiar gothic horror, was also possible. Val Guest is once again on board as director. The film has a good story with a strong focus on psychology and also has some suspenseful moments. The performances are excellent, with Stanley Baker leading the way in the role of the unyielding captain. Special applause for Bernard Robinson's set design. This film was shot on location, including at Bray Studios near London, but the viewer feels like they're in the jungle. They've made the most of it with minimal resources. It's also a good choice not to use a conventional soundtrack, but to let the "natural" jungle sounds play. This contributes to the realistic feel.
