February 19, 2000. Arms are completely banned for police officers in the United States. They are equipped with ultrasonic devices that immobilize the criminals for a few moments. Meanwhile, the police themselves are still threatened with rifles and pistols. The Knight Foundation is working on super-intelligent vehicles that can think and talk to aid in the fight against evil. But production is behind schedule. Devon, the boss of this organization, calls on Michael Knight. He has to test the cars and help in the fight against crime. It's been ten years since Michael was still active with the organization, but he accepts Devon's offer on one condition: he wants his 'old' car back: KITT Devon is in quite a bit of trouble because the car was disassembled and all parts were offered and sold on the market.
