Apichatpong Weerasethakul is a director who has been much appreciated in recent years and apparently makes good films. And I must say that I am quite impressed, because I really liked this Blissfully Yours. It is difficult to compare this with anything, but the camera work and the slow long shots reminded me somewhat of the work of Béla Tarr, although this is all in color. In any case, cinematographically it is perfectly fine. The slow, languid pace and the beautiful long shots ensured that I experienced the wonderful sultry atmosphere in the second half.

Blissfully Yours also consists of those kinds of scenes in the first half, although there is still some kind of action taking place, although there is not much to it. It is also a typical film in which not too much happens, and which you as a viewer really have to experience to really experience how something like that comes across. I thought the first part was fun and quite enjoyable, but the second half is really amazingly good. It's wonderful to notice that the relaxed atmosphere is actually transferred to the viewer at some point. I was really relaxed watching it and at one point I even had the idea that I was on some warm tropical island. Unfortunately, the end credits took me out of that trance, but it certainly gave me a good feeling.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul is a director I definitely want to see more of. Rarely have I been able to relax so much with a movie as with this one. If you appreciate slow, quiet cinema, with beautiful camerawork and a very relaxed atmosphere, then this is definitely recommended.

It's probably just me, but I can't quite place all the praise for this film. I remember looking for several minutes through the rear window of a moving car at the almost deserted asphalt and further away — also for several minutes — at a middle-aged woman sunbathing in her underwear. I have no trouble remembering films that show better images.

A remarkable film in which the protagonists eventually fall asleep. That's what I did right before the end. A bit of rewinding later showed me that I hadn't missed anything. I was already afraid of that.

It's not the first time I've been misled by high ratings on MM. I'm afraid it won't be the last time either, because as a simple film consumer, these kinds of exercises are not for me.

One for the persistent. The film is particularly languid, as if Weerasethakul wanted to draw a parallel with the equally banal life between Roong and Min. Their greatest aspiration is to be alone with the two of them and enjoy each other, somewhere far away in the forest where no one can disturb them. The languidness really takes over. As if Weerasethakul cares.

Weerasethakul then takes the time to register everything, including looks and movements. It flows quietly, sometimes perhaps a little too much. Minimalist cinema at its best. I understand that some people struggle with this. And yet Weerasethakul achieves what he wants to achieve with his film, that harmony and that blissful feeling. With the sex scenes you see his idiosyncrasy again. But it remains not an obvious film...
