A working-class drama based on a play by Henry Irving. Joe Radek, is an easygoing man who, because of his popularity among his miner colleagues, is suddenly put forward as the leader of a labor dispute. He is forced to lead a strike that destroys the fragile relationship between unions and management. Strikebreakers and police suddenly put his livelihood and even his life on the line.
