Help! The Doctor is Drowning...he survives (fortunately?), but the film does not stand the test of time. Terribly old-fashioned comedy that smells of Brussels sprouts. While most of the theater actors actually think they are on stage instead of in front of the film camera, there are also children who are difficult to understand (with accents from all over the country in 1 village). Rarely funny, an extra death blow for a comedy. A smile here and there prevents me from actually speaking of an embarrassing piece of Dutch cinema.

No, this film can't be called good, although it does have a few nice moments. I actually thought the best part was the gypsy boy with his imaginary dog. He was able to do that very convincingly. Of course, the handsome Willeke van Ammelrooy as a gypsy is also a very good reason to rewatch the film, if you don't mind a bit of female nudity. The story is weak, but the characters are interesting.

A mini movie night with among others this movie that I know all too well by title since my father had the book by Toon Kortooms on the shelf. And let it be my father who bought the dvd last Monday for 50 cents and left it at my place, so that's why I took the chance.

And with a title like that, it can't be anything other than nonsense and comedy that predominate, especially when Piet Bambergen also appears. A forgotten classic I read then, something that Martin Koolhoven also gets involved in, something that I actually find a bit exaggerated. Because what we see is a cheerful kind of chaos in which both the doctor and contractor Bram lose their way a bit, but it doesn't amount to more than that.

Of course the ladies in the case of Bijl and Van Ammelrooy are beautiful and the energetic Bambergen stands out. The whole thing is also entertaining for once, with small moments of humor, but more than a simple, old-fashioned farce it is really not in my eyes and unfortunately I follow the voting average and there is not a sufficient in it as far as I am concerned.
