Bert Kalmar and Jessie Brown are a popular duo on Broadway and attract packed houses with their infectious dance routines and ditto numbers. Luck smiles on them when they can make a good deal, but it is promptly broken again when Kalmar has an accident backstage and breaks his kneecap. He has been banned from dancing for at least a year and to pass the time he starts a career as a magician. However, this does not go smoothly and when he meets pianist Harry Ruby, his artistic talent once again gains the upper hand.
