A somewhat lesser film from Wilder. The pace is particularly slow and the jokes are mediocre. The story also has a somewhat strange structure that is to blame for this. That means that you are still curious about the mystery in the first part, but in the second half this disappears completely because it is all revealed in one go. Then it is mainly a matter of serving time. And there is nothing special about this film, either in terms of content or camera work, unless it is some bare tits that make it feel somewhat modern. Somewhere you can also see that Wilder wanted to make a good satire, but he is simply no longer as sharp as he used to be. The acting is otherwise just so-so. Not bad at all, but not spectacular either. Main character Holden, despite a role in Sunset, I find a bit boring. He cannot escape the soundness here, although his head still has some character due to age. 2.5*.

Director Billy Wilder and protagonist William Holden together again, 28 years after Sunset Blvd.. It was not a success. Marlene Dietrich refused the leading role intended for her, the test audience didn't like it, after a new edit the test audience had to laugh at it, but it wasn't a comedy at all. Wilder called it quits, the studio released it on a very limited basis, they didn't feel like wasting any more money on it... Fedora ended catastrophically, as a kind of stain on the filmography of the great director Billy Wilder.

And yet the film is more than a nice mystery, a variation on the themes from Sunset Blvd.. The critics have now recovered considerably, this Hollywood film was probably just against the spirit of the times in the seventies.

Good film in which a film producer tries to get a script from an older Hollywood legend. This film is a kind of follow-up to Sunset Blvd. , The level of that classic may not be reached, but this film has a good story that looks like a tragic mystery. Entertainingly constructed with good use of flashbacks and voice-overs.
