More than 6 million French people rushed to the cinemas to see top star Michèle Morgan as a blind girl and Pierre Blachar as the pastor in love with her.

They were shown a very beautiful, honest, mainly psychological black-and-white film that soberly told André Gide's novel.

And there is not only the intrigue of the young woman who was guided in all areas during her blindness and who subsequently experiences having ended up in a completely different, much harsher and more realistic world, but there is also the reference to the world's view of the disabled. "The disabled are there to receive alms and to be pitied," says the pastor, while there was never any thought of improving the condition of the blind. Coincidence or not, in 1946, the first law was voted in France that offered more opportunities to the disabled, in terms of employment, care and allowances.
