WWII. After a failed attack on a German battleship, John Bolton, commander of a submarine, gets the chance to rehabilitate during a dangerous mission. The British Admiralty orders him to prepare a crew for three brand new pocket submersibles, the so-called X-ships. But the crew members haven't quite come to terms with the trauma of the previous mission...
