The penniless Emmet Otter and his mother could use some money and they decide to enter a singing competition. Emmet writes a song with his band The Riverbottom Gang, but he's afraid they can't stand the electrical violence of their competitors.

Cute dolls.
This alternative Muppet movie is, despite (or maybe because of) the lack of the familiar characters, worth watching. Thanks to a few good songs, a sweet but working story and endearing puppets, who represent a gang of outcasts from the animal kingdom around and near the water. One of the better Christmas movies.

Quite cute, yes.
The Henson/Oz magic is certainly there, but apart from that it has also become a bit of a cheap production. The film actually works despite the somewhat limited execution, the charm that Henson manages to give to the puppetry is fortunately just enough to save this film.
A short intro by Kermit, and maybe a cameo here and there (but then again I'm not that familiar with the work of Henson/Oz). Otherwise this is completely standalone. A poor otter family by a river doesn't have it easy, mother otter does everything she can to give her son a nice present, son ditto.
The story is not that great, but those who like puppet animation will find enough charm here to easily get through the 50 minutes. Certainly not a great film, but certainly good for this period. Should be a bit more well-known, because within the Christmas offer certainly not a bad choice.
