Saw this movie yesterday, I thought it was too long! I almost fell asleep. It wasn't terrible to watch, but I certainly wouldn't watch it a second time.

What I also found a pity is that the characters get worse in make-up as they get older. Especially one of the main characters 'Castalia' played by Cicely Tyson, looks more like she is badly burned at the end than old.

During the weekend I also worked through a series/miniseries and that was this Civil War of which I only discovered the real title and content when I was half an hour to three quarters of an hour into it. Disappointing is an exaggeration, but let me put it this way that it turned out not to be my thing.

Because despite the clear words Civil War on the cover and photos on the inlay of fighting troops, the whole thing turns out to be about the American Civil War in a completely different way than expected and Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All is a much better load and in that sense comes closer to a drama or romantic period piece. The bourgeois-looking beginning in the nursing home even has a high Golden Girls content. The war has already been over and through Lucy we mainly see the aftermath and the trauma in the case of her husband The Captain. And as I said about 'disappointments', the series does indeed have a good picture of the period, the customs and habits, the difference between the class and the underprivileged and that life in that time is hard, especially for a woman.

The acting is certainly good, Diane Lane is always fun to watch, Sutherland plays his war-traumatized character well and the character Castralia is strong and a good addition. Downsides are, for example, Castralia's make-up at the end or Lucy's ever-repetitive reaction to The Captain and his stories and unprocessed grief about his buddy Ned. But the whole thing seems to suffer the most because it is not interesting enough for me and does not get any further within its 3-hour playing time than an average melodrama. And I can tell you that 3 hours is quite a long time to sit and not enough happens unless it is your genre, your thing. In my case that was not the case and quickly move on to the next one in that regard.
