De Gouden Swipe plot

Frisian-language film based on the regional novel of the same name by Abe Brouwer. The golden swipe tells the story of the Frisian farmer Douwe who, like his son Ate, is obsessed with the trotting sport. However, his great passion comes at the expense of farming. One day, Douwe is forced to borrow money from his neighbor Wilco. By responding to Wilco's advances, his wife Liesbeth settles the oppressive debt. Ate, noticing that his mother is languishing, accuses Wilco of adultery and blackmail. Douwe takes sides with the neighbor and gives his son a good beating. Furious, Ate turns his back on his parental home. The feud between father and son is settled on the trotting track, where both compete for the coveted Golden Whip.
