Verder Dan de Maan plot

It's 1969. The world is waiting to land on the Moon. Against the background of this historic event, the Werner farming family struggles with everyday life. When 9-year-old Caro (Neeltje de Vree) hears about the impending moon landing at school, she can't believe it. At home, on the farm, with her brothers and sisters, she does not find much of an audience for her worries. Her deeply religious father Mees (Huub Stapel) is perhaps even more concerned than she is. He is a farmer in heart and soul and the new era is not for him. He cannot go along with it, evades responsibility for his large family (a sixth is on the way), increasingly flees into drink or hides behind his clownish side. Not only the relationship with his wife Ita (Johanna ter Steege) comes under pressure, but also the family relationships are on edge.

bland farmer's drama about an alcohol-addicted pig farmer. Alcohol and pigs : a deadly combination ! I was never really included in the story, there was always a kind of distance and awkwardness in the film. Nevertheless, excellent performances by the Dutch toppers Huub Stapel and the ravishing Johanna Ter Steege. It is therefore a mystery to me why this is called a Belgian film

Film about a young girl in a large Catholic family with an alcoholic father. There are a lot of elements in the story that lift the film above the average youth film. And the acting is generally quite good. That's why I give the film a 3.5 *. Although there are also quite a few incredulities or exaggerated things in the film that would make me lean towards a 3*.
