Colorful classic drama with a lot of pomp and circumstance. Nor is there a lack of intrigue. Still, all that scheming didn't really interest me, mainly because of the pompous tone of the dialogues. The combat ballets aren't bad at all, but I've seen better examples of this in Ang Lee and Zhang Yimou films. The abrupt ending, which leaves me with the impression that the film isn't finished, still drags my rating down a bit.

Chinese Shakespeare, a drama at the imperial court. The film is a poetic fairytale that takes the time to create atmosphere. But first and foremost it is an absolute gem visually. On all levels, by the way. Beautiful decors that are dressed down to the millimetre, costumes to enjoy, light that manages to reach the right places or stays away just appropriately and warm colors without exaggerating. In it you see beautiful shots from different positions. Choreography as a top ballet between dance and martial arts.

The story could be just a little bit more, but even then everything is visually made good. A painting where the wind blows for more than two hours. Breathtaking to watch.

First off of course omitting those flying people just the fight scenes is enough and then in a realistic way,

Second, the story itself, that empress that everyone likes while being so selfish from the first scene. while they can get anyone all over china.

Thirdly, the slow-motion that really catches your eye. isn't really my thing either.

All my opinion. I can also imagine that others think it's wonderful.
