Quite a weak film, based on the work of the French writer Simone de Beauvoir, featuring whiny and forced romance throughout. It is about the love of a young, naive girl for a soldier who is taken away as a prisoner of war. Things then become more complicated when a Nazi also becomes obsessed with Foster (What I Feel for You Is a Sickness). She uses the German to free her lover.

The fact that the film is in English is already a major handicap. Chabrol, who is filming a French novelist, should have filmed his movie in French. What a misstep! Well, even great filmmakers make blunders sometimes.

The only positive point I can still see is the dazzlingly beautiful Jodie Foster. However, the emotion never leaps off the screen and the acting struck me as wooden and artificial. Still, I was glad when it was over. 1.5*

I can't put it any better than Filmkriebel. Not a great masterpiece by Chabrol. It deals with a love story and the resistance against the Germans during World War II. And it's all in English with a predominantly American cast. How could anyone be so crazy? Saddling the viewer with, apparently, your money problem. And on top of that, unnaturally acted by poorly developed characters. Because who exactly is this German Nazi and what is his role? And those resistance fighters, what drives them? But apart from that, the first hour is incredibly slow. Only after the outbreak of the war does it pick up a bit of tension and pace. Well, a bit. Naturally, I'm not giving this a passing grade.
