Visually the film looks fine. The colors are a feast for the eyes. But not only the colors delight the viewer's eyes, but also the beautiful appearance of Ava Gardner. What an appearance and charisma. The story itself held little or no interest for me, but the chemistry between Mason and Gardner is a plus. 6/10

Well, bizarre and kitschy, but for me personally it is impossible to find this film unsympathetic, given the idiosyncrasy of the author (yes, in the French way) and his unique determination to make a film which he could undoubtedly imagine that the cynics would aim their arrows at. The film looks beautiful, James Mason of course has more than enough mysterious charisma, and Ava Gardner ("unspeakably luscious" according to film critic Pauline Kael) is perfect both physically and in terms of performance as the actually ordinary femme fatale , by no means of ill will but with countless admirers who cannot take them seriously and therefore treat them like a toy – who doesn't know someone like that? In this way, the film remains fascinating until the end, and despite the theatricality of the concept and the predictability of the plot (reinforced by the fact that the very first scene already prepares the viewer for what is actually a suicide à deux[/ i] is) this is a film that I don't really like, but I find it very intriguing.
It's funny that the cast of this film reads like a small reunion of the "troupe" of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, because Sheila Sim (the narrator's niece), John Laurie (Nigel Patrick's mechanic), Marius Goring (the doomed lover from the beginning) and Abraham Sofaer (the seventeenth-century judge) have all appeared in The Archers films (respectively in [i]A Canterbury tale
, I know where I'm going![ /i] and the last two both in [i]A matter of life and death, in which Sofaer once again played a judge [and a surgeon, but that was in another dimension, I guess]), and cinematographer Jack Cardiff won an Oscar in 1947 for his work on their Black Narcissus.

a strange story with a strange atmosphere that somehow manages to fascinate, Pandorra is a woman (well played by Ava Gardner) who can wrap any man around her finger, several candidates make her way but she has no feelings for none of them .

Yet she promises to marry one of them, but then she meets Hendrick, a mysterious person, she feels irresistibly attracted to him but does not know why.

Ava Gardner is perhaps less impressive than in East Side West Side, but she remains a beautiful woman to see, the story is, as it were, a kind of modern version of an old mythical story.

Once again Mason is her opponent.
