The Sniper plot

"To the police -- Stop me."

Probably because he has been rejected by women all his life, a lonely man with a gun embarks on a series of assassination attempts. The police are perplexed, because it seems that the murders are completely random, until their psychologist comes up with an idea.

Good movie about a man who randomly shoots women. One part of the film focuses on a psychologically disturbed man who knows how to function in everyday life. And then there's the police and other agencies looking for a killer who shoots women for no apparent reason. All quite realistic, but also with some tension.

After seeing the scene in which the police, the press and the mayor have consultations and emotions run high from a social psychological point of view, the question arises, is a woman's life in our society worth so much more than a man's life? because if you're honest the riot would have been a lot less if the sniper had only targeted men.
The answer is of course yes , credit to the film that the psychological aspect of the man still gets attention if it is a bit sketchy .
The film is also well put together , unfortunately we get too little backstory about the motives of the perpetrator although there is a nice hint at his relationship with his mother who would not be too good , flashbacks would have been very welcome here but here is so unfortunately not chosen , too bad .

This one was very good. Shot on location. In San Francisco in particular. A very early serial killer film. An idea from the writing couple Anhalt who ended up with the up-and-coming producer and later director Stanley Kramer. Edward Dmytryk was just able to start filming again because, like Elia Kazan, for example, he had decided to betray fellow communists to the people of McCarthy. But even better than directing and camera work is how scenes are set up and also the camera work of Burnett Guffey who made a whole series of noirs. Especially the scenes in which the protagonist chases his victim are very nice.

The sniper is remarkably cast with Arthur Frantz who has the face of an all American boy and in his appearance is not immediately terrifying. He's so good you wonder why he didn't get more famous. He also acts very strongly in scenes without dialogue from him but which are mainly a reaction to others.

It was Hayscode so a killer of women who enjoyed it is still tricky so The Sniper is portrayed as someone with tendencies he can't resist, which makes the film more noir. The film does skim the very edge of what you got away with.
