"Once I trusted a dame... now I Walk Alone"

A nice noir, perhaps not memorable but certainly not bad either, Douglas often played the bad guy in his younger years, it is not hardcore crime but still reasonably entertaining.

The first of seven films Lancaster and Douglas starred in together. These were early roles for both men, with Douglas playing a villain. A decent noir that takes a while to get going. Ex-bootlegger Frankie Madison is released from prison after 14 years and wants to remind his former friend Dink, a club owner, of a promise. But Dink isn't very keen to honor it, much to Madison's chagrin. Naturally, a few women also appear, their sole purpose being to spice up the film with sentimentality. Kay Lawrence (Lizabeth Scott) succeeds, but the other, Lex (Kristine Miller), adds absolutely nothing. Although the second half was much better, I didn't find I Walk Alone a film I highly regard in this genre. Worth a viewing, but that's about it.
