Manèges plot
Dora seduces wealthy riding teacher Robert who is madly in love with her. After getting him to marry her, her materialism pushes him to the brink of financial abyss. Meanwhile, she also has all kinds of lovers.

Allégret tells with a lot of film material and still too many flashbacks, with sometimes annoying muttering, the blind love of Robert, played by Bernard Blier, indeed in a sad role, far away from the later comedies in which he could unpack wonderfully.
In terms of tension, the film goes crescendo and the best moments can be experienced towards the end, when hard truths are revealed.
Maybe 3.5 is a bit too much, but the extremely bad against the extremely good, the melo and film noir keys, the acting, also by Jane Marken, add something to the somewhat nostalgic reunion of a "vieux film français".
