One of the most important modern Chinese composers, Guo Wenjing, feels strongly connected to the cultural tradition of his country. He strongly believes that we need to know the past in order to build a future. With the chamber opera Si Fan, composed for the Nieuw Ensemble, he tries to bring traditional and modern China and East and West closer together.
