Nice movie indeed. Some gore effects. Good bad this humorous horror picture by Lewis. Nicely exaggerated, bloody and wrong. For the rest also quite cool and the story went well. Amusing/cheesy horror work by Lewis with also a good atmosphere. Just a funny (but of course amateurish) horror movie for once. 3.0.

A story in which a group of strangers gets stuck in a falsely friendly environment often has a high level of horror. I like this type of story. Such a story evokes a certain fear. It appeals to a primal feeling. A natural desire to go and stand where one wants. A feeling of life and freedom. A universal desire that, if thwarted, evokes an unpleasant sensation. Evoking that feeling in a story or in a film creates recognition in the reader or viewer. He becomes angry or anxious or something else on his own behalf. The imagination is appealed to. One can empathize. That's what it is, I believe. At least with me.

In this film, that feeling is not sufficiently expressed. The film does not evoke an uncomfortable feeling. That feeling involves a much darker and more sinister atmosphere than is shown here. In this film, that atmosphere is far away. It is too light, too silly and too sunny. At certain moments, Benny Hill is not far away. Chases accompanied by fast ukulele sounds clash somewhat with the serious kills that are discussed in another emotional part of the film. A lot of playful scenes, the music and the overacting prevent you from taking any of the horror events seriously. There is too much jolly overkill and that gets in the way of creating tension.

Still, not a bad movie. The kills are inventive. There is some gore. Seen in the light of the time, not even badly done. And the characters are ridiculous but pleasant and entertaining.

Nice movie, but I just missed some tension and horror.

Those Hillbillies are a strange bunch. Well, we shouldn't generalize, but you can make uncomfortable horror movies about them. Here you have 2000 of them, housed in a remote village. Six unsuspecting passers-by are given the honor of being guests of honor at the village festival.

What follows are some sadistic medieval games where you come out anything but unscathed. Gruesome and merciless. A bit of blood here and there, severed limbs too, it all looks a bit fake. For a trained viewer not so special.

The creepiest part was the ending where, in retrospect, no trace of the ghost town could be found.
