Well, The Pyramid didn't leave a lasting impression on me, that's for sure. It's a horror movie like so many others, and one that's been done and worked out so much better. Anyway, I find it very irritating that this film can't make the choice between 'found footage' style or not. You can't do both, unless it really has to be top notch quality and unfortunately it wasn't.

The story itself is quite interesting and the creatures also look pretty cool (if not in close-up). But on the whole it just wasn't exciting, gore and/or convincing enough in my opinion. That is why The Pyramid remains at an unsatisfactory level.

2*
4/10 (IMDB)

I have always been fascinated by ancient Egypt and its so-called curses. The countless ways in which people were tortured, sacrificed and buried also appeal to the imagination and yet no horror film has yet managed to successfully bring it to the silver screen.

The Pyramid starts off reasonably well, but I couldn't quite get into it. It's not very exciting. Perhaps because it was filmed quite dark at times, or because I had secretly been influenced by the mediocre figures. The cast is not very interesting and I was mainly waiting for the confrontation with the monster. For that it's mainly hopping corridors, although those little animals and the sandtrap are still entertaining.

But the small amount of tension that was there is eventually canceled out by a fully computer generated Anubis. A god that appeals to the imagination, but takes a bite out of your retina here. Bad CGI is one thing, but also the design is just bad. If Scooby Doo steps out of his nest in the morning, you'd be more likely to be shocked.

In terms of kills or filth there is also little to experience. The little bit of myth that came around the corner was still fascinating, with the weighing of the soul. I keep waiting for the first really scary horror movie about Egyptian curses.

Started promising, but slowed down a lot.

Horror films about Egyptian pyramids are a new genre for me, but the found footage genre is not. I'm not a big fan of it, but I really liked movies like Project X and Chronicle.

The claustrophobic scenes are very well made, and the fear is clearly visible. The acting isn't that bad. Sometimes it even manages to get exciting. Unfortunately, in the third part of the film, it's just too much over the top.

Strange directions are taken, + the bad CGI at the end makes this movie a 2.5* from me.
