De Tatta's: Daan plot

Daan wants only one thing: to impress his crush Layla. When he spontaneously promises to fix the most epic gift ever for her birthday party, it is easier said than done. Luckily, Grandpa Richard is there to help him. Well, help… What seems like a simple mission quickly turns into a chaotic search through the Hollandwijk neighborhood, filled with bizarre situations and unexpected encounters. As Daan goes to greater lengths to impress his crush, he discovers that 'I'll fix that' is easier said than done.

De Tatta's is definitely a sort of camp. It's bursting with fun, but there are enough jokes that fall flat or are cringeworthy (even if intended). It's only 80 minutes long (including bloopers and credits), but it feels a bit too long to me because too many scenes are stretched out just a little too much. The subject matter is nice and small, but it's more suited for a long episode of a TV series than a full-fledged film. The scenes with Grandpa Buijsman are by far the funniest, but the moment he's not there, the quality drops quickly. I've also always found Daan to be a somewhat weaker character, although Van der Horst plays him well by constantly keeping a straight face and acting completely serious; that works somehow. 2.5*.
