Downtown plot
Amsterdam, 1986. In the flamboyant nightclub Downtown, Ronnie, Lennart, and Bas seem untouchable. Their close friendship revolves around nights of freedom, desire, and excess, set against the backdrop of a city in full swing. But when the first rumors of AIDS begin to circulate, the atmosphere within their world slowly changes. While Ronnie cautiously tries to look ahead, Lennart and Bas cling to a life that seems endless—until Bas suddenly disappears without a trace. More than thirty years later, during the coronavirus pandemic, Ronnie unexpectedly runs into Bas on the metro. He decides to host a dinner where Lennart joins them, their first meeting in years.

Excellent film about three friends who meet in a gay nightclub during the 1980s. The love triangle and the characters are well portrayed (as is the entire gay scene and the AIDS epidemic at the time). The switching between the two time periods works well here. Excellent acting from the entire cast, and the film also manages to be moving towards the end. Just under 4.0 stars.

Beautiful and at the same time confronting.
First of all, all top actors who draw you into the story.
From the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s.
The dynamic between the actors bursts off the screen.
At the end of the film, there is a moment of silence. Everyone realizes that it was actually quite intense.
